What speeds will I get on

the Hampshire Community Broadband network?

We envisage services with speeds of up to 1000Mbps in both directions — both upload as well as download. For the initial service, light home users will be offered speeds of 100Mbps download, 10Mbps upload at a price equivalent to the best deal Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) service from traditional ISPs, such as BT today. For heavier, more sophisticated home users, as well as for business users, we will provide ultrafast services at 100Mbps symmetric (both upload and download). Note that these speeds are what you will receive at the fibre router where it enters your property – they are not the typical ‘up to’ figures quoted by traditional suppliers, which suffer from both contention and distance, and frequently provide only a fraction of the advertised speeds.

Speeds that you experience over wi-fi or at more distant parts of your property will depend on many factors, including your home network, the physical characteristics of your property, the possible congestion on the wi-fi bands you use, and the capabilities of your PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets. Please go to the Support section of the website for a more detailed discussion of these issues.

If you need a higher performance, we can provide up to a Gigabit (1000Mbps hyperfast) speed to meet your needs. This will enable all the foreseeable service needs of our part of Hampshire to be met, irrespective of how many people may be in the household or business. When you need more, your service can be upgraded without the need for any physical upgrade of equipment.
